uPalmy is a non profit, student circle cooperative founded by Malaysian Muslims in Massey University, Palmerston North, New Zealand. The origins of this initiative date back to 2006. The establishment of this union is based on the grounds of needing to fulfill specific objectives as required by the Deen and by virtue of realizing the importance of togetherness in achieving those objectives. Solely for the sake of Allah, the objectives that reflect the best interests of the members of the body are mentioned below.

    To develop individuals who:

-have faith in the unseen (imaan).

-instill the concept of the unity of God (tawheed).

    -inculcate consciousness towards God (taqwa).

-nurture righteousness of the creed (aqeedah).

To act as a stepping stone in:

-representing the voice of the Malaysian Muslim family (usrah).

    -fostering brotherhood/sisterhood (
    ukhuwah).

-uniting a people under the banner of Islam (ummah).

-propagating the message of God (da'wah).

uPalmy gets its name from the letter u which stands for you, us, united, usrah, ukhuwah, ummah and usaha, while the word Palmy is the name affectionately given to the city of Palmerston North by its residents. uPalmy is pronounced "yoo-pal-mee".

The uPalmy logo is a motif of a leaf with Arabic letters inscribed. The inscription spells Allah in Arabic, while the leaf represents New Zealand, the country of establishment.
